Mia le Roux Withdraws From Miss Universe Competition
Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, has stepped back from the Miss Universe competition due to health concerns.
On Friday morning, 15 November, the Miss South Africa organisation confirmed in a statement that the 28-year-old beauty queen would not be participating in the pageant scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 16 November, in Mexico City, Mexico.
“Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health,” the statement reads. “Our hearts are with her as she takes the necessary steps toward recovery.”
In a follow-up statement, the organisation confirmed that Le Roux – who is hearing impaired, a condition which can affect balance – was suffering from severe vertigo.
Le Roux herself commented, thanking everyone for their outpouring of love:
“I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me. However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”
